(A Step-by-Step Guide)

Traveling to our secluded island is easier than you might think, with regular flights arriving at the main hub in Abaco. We recommend booking all flights into Marsh Harbour International Airport (MHH), which is the current exclusive entry point for the Abaco Cays.

Step 1: Arrive at Marsh Harbour International Airport (MHH)

MHH is the main hub for all international and domestic flights into the Abacos. Upon arrival, you will collect your luggage and proceed to the taxi stand.

Step 2: Taxi to the Ferry Dock

Your destination on the mainland is the Treasure Cay Ferry Dock. The taxi ride from MHH takes approximately 40–45 minutes. The standard fare for this journey is typically around $85 for two people. To ensure a stress-free transfer, we highly recommend pre-arranging your taxi service. Please email or call us with your flight details, and we will happily arrange transportation for your party.

Recommended Taxi Contacts (Airport Transfers):

Note: Many local taxi services communicate via WhatsApp.

Step 3: Take the Green Turtle Cay Ferry

Once you arrive at the Treasure Cay Ferry Dock, you will board a boat operated by the Green Turtle Cay Ferry Service. The scenic ride across the Sea of Abaco takes just 15–20 minutes. The one-way fare typically costs $15–$17 per person (depending on the specific dock nearest your rental). It is crucial to let the ferry captain know the name of the house you are staying in and that you are expecting to be met by Abaco Island Rentals.

Step 4: Welcome to Green Turtle Cay!

A member of the team (typically Julie or Leslie) will be there to meet you at the dock nearest your vacation rental. If you have reserved a golf cart for your stay, please ensure we have your flight arrival time so we can have it ready for you. If you'd like us to pre-book a golf cart for you, please let us know. From there, we will guide you to your holiday home, and all that's left to do is relax, unwind, and enjoy your stay! Please note: we cannot help lift heavy luggage.

Arriving by boat?

If you plan to arrive at Green Turtle Cay in your own boat, be sure to follow Bahamas Customs rules and regulations. You must clear Bahamian Customs and Immigration immediately upon arrival at the nearest designated Port of Entry. Green Turtle Cay is a convenient and active Port of Entry, typically clearing in at the Green Turtle Club Resort & Marina (or sometimes the public dock/marina).

Clearance Procedure & Etiquette

  1. Fly the Q-Flag: As soon as you enter Bahamian waters, anchor, and hoist the yellow Quarantine Flag (Q-Flag).

  2. Notify Officials: Immediately notify the Customs and Immigration officials of your arrival. The captain is the only person permitted to leave the vessel until the vessel and all passengers have been officially cleared.

  3. Required Documents (The Captain must take these ashore):

    • Cruising Permit Application: Pre-registering online via the Click2Clear system is highly recommended to speed up the process.

    • Bahamas Immigration Card: One per person on board.

    • Passports: Valid passports for every person on board (US citizens must present a passport).

    • Vessel Registration/Title: Proof of ownership.

    • AIS: Foreign pleasure vessels 50 feet and over are required to have a properly functioning AIS that is active at all times.

  4. Completion: Once cleared, you will receive your signed Cruising Permit, the "Q" flag can be lowered, and the Bahamian courtesy flag should be hoisted.

Mandatory Entry Fees (Cruising Permit)

All foreign private vessels are required to purchase a Cruising Permit, which varies based on vessel length and duration of stay. Note: Fishing Permits are now required separately and must be renewed every 30 days, even if you purchase an annual Cruising Permit.

We highly recommend visiting the official Bahamas Customs website and the associated Click2Clear portal well in advance of your trip for the most detailed and current regulations.

Firearms & Pets

  • Firearms: If you have a firearm (shotguns or handguns only) on board, it must be declared to Customs. The weapon must remain aboard, locked, and secured at all times. Ammunition must be declared and match your paperwork exactly.

  • Pets: If you are bringing a pet, you must obtain a Pet Import Permit from the Bahamas Department of Agriculture before your arrival (see below).

Please be aware that there is NO bank or ATM on Green Turtle Cay. While most restaurants, hotels, and golf-cart companies accept credit cards, it is always advisable to bring enough Bahamian or US cash (accepted interchangeably) for smaller vendors, tips, and convenience.
